Market information for companies

About the publication

"New Markets - New Opportunities: Cambodia" is a joint publication by Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI), the German Business Working Group (ADW) in Phnom Penh and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, published in July 2019. In the following, we have compiled important aspects from the publication.

Economic structure and prospects

Cambodia recorded high economic growth of around 7% in the years before the corona pandemic. The country wants to broaden its economic base and stabilise it against external influences. The focus is on labour-intensive light industries with high export potential. The largest economic sector is agriculture and forestry.

These industries are particularly attractive for market entry in Cambodia:

  • Construction
  • Infrastructure
  • Tourism
  • Health industry
  • Manufacturing industry
  • Investment climate

Cambodia is becoming more attractive, especially for textile production, real estate and light industries. Besides exports and tourism, foreign investment is the third essential pillar of economic growth. Here, there is a high demand in the areas of infrastructure, energy as well as transport and logistics.
